Let Tina Garrett remove the intimidation from your portrait work.

Let's face it, portrait painting in any medium can be scary, but Tina will show you the best way to improve your work, with straight-forward advice and techniques that yield positive results. If you have difficulty with your portraits, or simply avoid portraits altogether due to fear, then this workshop is for you.

Tina starts with fundamental no-nonsense instruction, designed to get you off on the right foot.

She covers the basics, including her preferred materials, brushes and surfaces, removing all the guesswork and confusion surrounding equipment choices.

Students will learn:

  • Selective Start Method as described in Alla Prima by Artist and Author Richard Schmid

  • Use of chroma and edges to control the viewers eye

  • The power of values in creating dramatic portraiture

  • How to achieve an accurate likeness in portraiture

  • How to organize your palette for clean color

  • Posing and lighting the model

  • Pricing your commissioned work

  • Understanding Facebook PR & Marketing

A supply list is provided via email to each artist upon registration.

If the minimum number of 8 students is not reached within 30 days of the workshop, the workshop may be canceled.

Tina is a longtime Portrait Society of America mentor for the PSoA Cecilia Beaux Forum Mentoring Program and Annual Art of The Portrait Conference Faculty as well as Oil Painters of America National Conference Faculty and Tina offers mentorship and over a dozen workshops around the world annually.
